Tar

Azar Zargarian
Born in 1964, Tehran,
is a composer and tar instrumentalist. She
studied Tar with master T. Shahi and the radif of Persian music with the most renowned  masters of Traditional Persian Music such as A. Tahmasbì, M.R Lotfi, M. Kiani and H. Alizadeh.

After studying at Tehran University of Art in 1995 with the musicologist M.R Darvishi, with a dissertation on the comparison between the Iranian tar and the Azari tar, Azar Zargarian continued and completed her studies, obtaining a Masters degree in tar (2005).
She has taught tar at Tehran Women Conservatory of Music and the Persian radif at Tehran Faculty of Music.
In 2007, she was invited to Italy for the concerts of the “Mowlana Eight Hundredth Anniversary Celebrations”, as artistic director and tar player of  the Ensemble Mehr.
Currently she works with the Bahar Ensemble of Hengameh Akhavan.

She is the  co-founder and artistic director of Ensemble Shahrzad which toured in Italy in 2009. She teaches at the University Elmi-Karbordì in Tehran.
